Quilt Details

You Can Be Part of the World’s Largest Calendar Quilt!

We are the National Sustainability Association®, whose activities include the National Environmental Hall of Fame® and the World’s Largest Calendar Quilt (66 feet x 7 feet). Quilts were chosen to display the National Sustainability Monthly Holidays because of their sustainability, re-use and repurposing as art as well as bed spreads.

The National Environmental Hall of Fame® has given awards to top environmentalists, including Harrison Ford, Pierce Brosnan, Art Linkletter and Ed Begley Jr.

We just returned from a wonderful launch for the World’s Largest Calendar and Environmental Quilt at the American Quilters Society (AQS) show in Des Moines. The quilt was displayed for the full four days of the exhibition (September 28 – October 1).

Please see photos of the quilt at EnvironmentalHallofFame.net (click on AQS, right hand column).

Mayor Franklin Cownie of Des Moines inaugurated the quilt for its nationwide tour. Mayor Cownie also viewed a special quilt that included a composite of all 12 monthly holidays. A similar custom quilt for the city of Des Moines will be presented to him in October or November at a city council meeting.

A custom quilt consists of at least three of the twelve photos highlighting 1) A city landmark, 2) The Mayor’s favorite sustainability project, 3) A school doing the most to help the environment (please view composite quilt of 12 months, after December quilt).

All quilters are invited to participate in quilting a custom quilt for the city of their choice. They can participate in presenting the quilt to the Mayor of that city.

Our goal is to start at least 100 custom quilts for 100 cities by the end of the year. The quilt will be presented to the Mayor of the city and then become the heart of each city’s National Green Museum® Exhibition.

Fabric on Demand will provide a one-piece custom photo fabric top (58” x 84”) to be turned into a quilt. We have negotiated a very good price for the fabric that includes free shipping. Quilts will be joined together at the end of the year to become part of the World’s Largest Calendar Quilt (perhaps at the National Mall)

Our model composite quilt was appraised to receive over $1,000 in insurance value. This will help you receive a high market value. We believe the quilt will be very popular. The quilt will receive bids from people of each city. Bids will be posted on our website. The quilt can be sold by the end of the year, and remain on tour for one year (or more at the discretion of the buyer).

Proceeds of the quilt will be shared equally between the quilter and the National Sustainability Association® to help cover start up costs for the National Green Museum® Exhibition in the city where the quilt is displayed.

Quilters will be rewarded with an exhibition for one month in their chosen city and be inducted into their local Environmental Hall of Fame. They will receive 1,000’s of dollars of publicity through media coverage and press releases. Every quilter will receive their own webpage that displays photos of the quilt with the Mayor, photos of the quilt in newspapers and photos of the quilt in the National Green Museum® Exhibition.

The National Green Museum® Exhibition can be displayed at the quilters business, place chosen by the quilter, libraries, public places and businesses that wish to host the Exhibition. For more information please contact Allen and Catherine at 541-451-5199 or email EnvironmentalFame@lisco.com
