Quilt Program

Very Simple and Easy

The purpose of this page is to show you how simple and easy it is to help us create a successful addition to the sustainable education program for your community. At the very least, it would only require 5-10 minutes of your time.

Our mission is to help each community receive greater support for implementing their sustainability initiatives.

How?

1. We make a local community poster with your city’s 12 top green initiatives into a quilt. (See sample local community poster here.) The quilt allows individuals to see the city’s green initiatives at a glance. Individuals can understand and appreciate the initiatives in a profound and entertaining way.
2. The community and schools become more enthusiastic about the city’s green initiatives. This gives the city more support to expand their green initiatives.
3. Enthusiasm will increase when your quilt is displayed with the World’s Largest Environmental & Calendar Quilt at the World’s Largest LEED Certified Building, the Chicago Merchandise Mart, on Earth Day, Monday, April 22, 2013.

We can also make recommendations to help improve your sustainability website.

Quilt Fundraising Options

We would like to make options for fundraising as simple and easy as possible (please choose one):

1. A staff member could recommend one or more businesses that we could contact (5 minutes)
2. The mayor or a staff member could write a one-sentence recommendation that we could send to potential sponsors (5 minutes)
3. Your staff could ask the sponsor to find out if they would like to participate (5-10 minutes)

Why Have a One-Page Explanation for Each Image on Your Community Green Megatrends® Quilt?

1. Think Global, Act Local: Students will see at a glance your 12 top sustainability initiatives as images on the quilt. Seeing the quilt, along with a one-page explanation for each of the 12 images on the quilt, they will become very impressed by what your city is doing to help planet Earth.
2. We will help create the one-page explanation for each of your city’s 12 top green initiatives as represented on the quilt.
   • We would like the one-page explanation to be as simple as possible.
   • The one-page explanation will become a flier or lesson plan given to teachers.
   • We can add 10 questions to the flier that would help turn it into a lesson plan for the teacher.
   • If you would like, you could make suggestions or add the questions yourself.
3. In addition, an 11×17 poster of the flier could be given to classrooms each month to hang on the wall.

How to Create a One-Page Explanation (please choose one):

1. We could create the one-page explanation for you (no time)
2. Your staff could provide us with links that would help us create the one-page explanation for you (5-10 minutes)
3. Your staff could write a one-page explanation for each month (30-60 minutes per month)

Suggestion
The information for the one-page explanation could be easily obtained from your sustainability plan or website.

Additional Idea
Students or schools with the most green points each month can have their photo taken with the quilt. This Capture the Quilt program gives motivation for schools to compete and cooperate with each other to become more green.
